The University of Kentucky softball team opened its fall schedule last night with a 10-0 win over Georgetown College. The Wildcats belted 15 hits and drew eight bases on balls in the 10-inning scrimmage.

Junior Alli Eckman, who missed the entire 2006 season due to a knee injury, was 6-for-6 at the plate with three RBI. Junior transfer Audrey Meyer was 2-for-4 with two walks, while senior catcher Katie Campbell finished 3-for-6 at the dish with one RBI. Senior Brooke Marnitz and junior Ashley Dimkich each drove in a run.

The Wildcat pitching staff combined for the 10-inning shutout and gave up just two hits on the night. UK allowed gave up two walks and struck out six Tigers in the win. Junior Lindsay Brogdon tossed three solid innings, giving up one hit and one walk. The Birmingham native also struck out a batter.

?This was a good effort for our first game out. It was a really low-key teaching scrimmage and we appreciate Georgetown College for coming down to play,? said third-year head coach Eileen Schmidt. ?Alli Eckman had a fantastic night at the plate and Lindsay Brogdon did a good job in the circle. Now that we have gotten the first one under our belt and the jitters are gone, I expect to see better adjustments being made and a better intensity level regarding the job at hand.?

The Wildcats will continue their fall schedule this weekend, Oct. 1, when they host Kentucky Wesleyan. The doubleheader is set for a 5 p.m. start at the UK Softball Complex.
