
Kentucky Falls to No. 5 Texas on Saturday
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 4 Texas Longhorns scored seven runs in the second inning and capitalized on three Kentucky errors Saturday afternoon to beat the Wildcats 12-3 in five innings in the 2025 regular season finale.
Kentucky closes the regular season 29-25 and 7-17 in the Southeastern Conference. Texas completed the sweep of the series Saturday with the win and finished its regular season 45-9 and 16-8 in the SEC, good enough for third place in the league standings. Kentucky finished 13th in the SEC.
Texas’ 12 runs came on 12 hits and utilized three Kentucky errors in the process to score in the first, second and third innings to create separation from the Wildcats. Texas senior pitcher Mac Morgan threw the first 3.1 innings with no earned runs allowed on three hits with one walk and one strikeout.
The SEC Tournament begins Tuesday in Athens, Georgia. UK will face the host Bulldogs in the 12 vs. 13 game live on SEC Network. The time will be announced later this evening.
Key Play
Peyton Plotts’ sac fly in the top of the fifth inning was the key play for UK’s offense as it broke the seal on the scoring for the Wildcats.
Key Player
Plotts was the key player for UK on the day with a double in the top of the first to give the Wildcats their first hit of the game, and went 2-for-2 in the game with two RBI and two runs scored.
Super Stat
Mia Scott for Texas played all 10 positions on the field in the game, the first person known to do that in Texas Softball history.
