The Kentucky Wildcats recorded their first win of the 2005 season in dramatic fashion today, Feb. 13, as they downed DePaul, 2-1, in the final game of the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. UK moves to 1-9 on the year, while the Blue Demons are now 4-6 this season.

The winning run came in the bottom of the seventh as Amber Janneck singled up the middle with one out. The sophomore stole second and the catcher?s errant throw sailed into shallow left-center field. Janneck rounded the bases and beat the throw home to give the Wildcats their first win of the season and snap a nine-game losing skid.

The Blue Demons scored the first run of the day on a solo homerun to center by Saskia Roberson.

The Wildcat defense ended a DePaul rally in the fifth as Janneck made a diving stop to her right and then delivered a shovel pass to Gina Florence at second to get force and strand a pair of Blue Demons.

Freshman starter Samantha Allen allowed just five baserunners over the next six innings and retired the side in order three times.

Kentucky knotted the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth. Nance recorded her second hit of the day, a bloop single over the first baseman?s head. She moved to second on a Florence groundout and scored from second on an error by the DU second baseman.

Allen (1-4) tossed a complete game, giving up just one earned run on four hits while striking out one. Nance finished with two hits and a run scored.

The Cats return to action next weekend, Feb. 18-20, at Houston?s Crowne Plaza Classic in Houston, Texas.
