The University of Kentucky softball team fell to 10-38 overall and 1-25 in the SEC after a slim 1-0 loss to Auburn (25-25, 13-13) Saturday at the UK Softball Complex. Freshman Amy Kendall gave up only four hits and struck out five but the Cats were unable to get any runs on the board.
Auburn made the first threat of the game in the second inning. With runners on second and third and no one out, Deni Zeigler hit a fly ball to center field. Annie Malone tagged up at third base but centerfielder Jessica Nance made the catch and threw it on a line to catcher Lyndsey Angus who made the tag for the second out. A strike out ended the inning for the Tigers.

In the bottom half of that same inning, Kentucky had their best chance to score. Jessica Nance walked to lead off and got the signal to steal second. An errant throw by the catcher to second base went into center and Nance advanced to third. But a pop up and a strike out left her stranded and ended the inning.
The Tigers would score the game’s only run in the sixth. With two outs, a double by Kasey Angulo brought home Shannon Anderson who had walked and advanced to third on a single by Sara Dean. Kentucky went down one-two-three in the sixth and seventh innings to give Auburn the 1-0 victory.
The Cats will head west on I-64 on Wednesday for a mid-week doubleheader with the Louisville Cardinals. They will then travel to Fayetteville next weekend for the final SEC series of the season against Arkansas.
