Irish pitcher throws no-hitter against Kentucky softball.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (March 5, 2000) — Notre Dame pitcher Melanie Alkirepitched a no-hitter as the UK softball team fell to theFighting Irish, 8-0, on the final day of the State LineClassic.

Jenny Kirech went 2-3 for the Irish (10-4) with twodoubles, and Andria Bledsoe added a 2-3performance at the plate.

UK pitcher Jen Howland dropped to 3-4 on theseason, while the Cats finished the two-daytournament with a record of 0-3.

UK (7-12) returns to action on Wednesday afternoonwith their 2000 home opener with a doubleheaderagainst Morehead State. First pitch is slated for 2p.m. with the second set for a 4 p.m. start.
