San Antonio, Texas ? The Kentucky softball team spilt its final two games with a loss and a tie at the Texas-San Antonio Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 15. The Cats finished the tournament with a 2-2-1 record after defeating North Texas and Missouri-Kansas City in yesterday?s action.

The Kentucky softball team dropped its first game of the day in a 6-5 decision to the Kansas Jayhawks. KU got on board early in the first as Mel Wallach tripled to right field, bringing in Nic Washburn and scoring one play later on an RBI single from Destiny Frankenstein. The Jayhawks added four more in the fifth to go up 6-0 before the Cats answered in the sixth.

Consecutive walks to Meghan Cooper, Brooke Marnitz and Amy Kendall loaded the bases for the Cats, and Katie Campbell hit a grand slam, her third home run of the tournament, to bring UK within two, 6-4. UK scored one in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally came up short for the Cats in the one-run loss.

Amy Kendall led Kentucky at the plate, going 3-for-3 with one run and an RBI. Campbell went 1-for-3 with four RBIs. Kassie Humphreys recorded the complete game for KU with nine K?s and nine hits on five earned runs.

In the Cats final game against Texas-Arlington, Autumn Petrino got the Mavericks on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI double. UK quickly answered back in the third, as Rachel Friberg and Jessica Nance crossed home plate off of a throwing error from the UTA catcher. The Mavericks tied things in their half of the third, as Petrino recorded her second RBI double game to knot the game at 2-2.

Due to time regulations, the Cats and Mavericks ended the game in a tie.

The Cats have two weeks off before returning to action by hosting the Kentucky Invitational Feb. 28-29 at the UK Softball Complex.
