LEXINGTON, Kty. – Despite seven strikeouts from pitcher Keary Camunas, the University of Kentucky softball team dropped a 2-0 decision to Florida in Game 1of their SEC doubleheader at the UK Softball Stadium on Friday.

Florida (36-15, 15-3 SEC) scored twice in the fifth inning and the Wildcats (17-32, 5-13 SEC) were unable to push a run across, as the SEC East-leading Gators held on for the 2-0 victory. Camunas scattered seven hits and gave up two unearned runs to take the loss. Catcher Sarah Snider led the UK offensive attack, going 1-for-2 after blasting a double to left-center field.

In Game 2, UK senior Lorie Horner ripped a solo home run in the fifth inning, but it was not enough, as Florida claimed a 5-1 victory. The Gators scored a pair of runs in both the second and fifth innings and tacked on a run in the sixth for the final margin. Horner’s homer produced the only run for the Wildcats, despite a school-record sixth triple from freshman Leslie Kwiatkoski. Horner finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI to lead the UK hitters.

The two teams will hit the diamond once again on Saturday, although the game time has been moved up in attempt to avoid foul weather predicted to hit Lexington. The first game of the twinbill was originally scheduled for 1 p.m., but the first pitch will now be at 12 noon at the UK Softball Stadium, located on Alumni Drive.
