Abbey Cheek Into Final 10 for National Player of the Year

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior Abbey Cheek has made the final-10 cutoff for the USA Softball National Player of the Year, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Cheek is one of four representatives from the Southeastern Conference – joining Alyssa DiCarlo (Georgia), Amanda Lorenz (Florida) and Mia Davidson (Mississippi State).
 
The Inman, S.C., native led the nation’s best softball conference in batting average and on-base percentage in addition to being top-10 in doubles, HR, RBI, hits and slugging percentage. She became the first Kentucky Wildcat ever to win SEC Player of the Year on Tuesday.
 
Cheek and the Wildcats will kick off SEC Tournament play on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET against the winner of the (12) Mississippi State and (5) Ole Miss game – which is scheduled for Wednesday night. The game will air live on the SEC Network, ESPN3 and the ESPN app with the WCWS broadcast team of Beth Mowins (pxp), Michele Smith (color) and Holly Rowe (dugouts) on the call.
