No. 3 Oklahoma Hits Walk-Off Grand Slam to Sweep UK, 12-2

NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure a walk-off 12-2 win over Kentucky in five innings Saturday at Love’s Field in Norman.

With Saturday’s win, Oklahoma capped off a sweep of Kentucky and is now 38-3 on the year and sits 11-1 in the Southeastern Conference, atop the league standings. Kentucky falls to 22-19 overall and is 1-14 in the SEC.

UK will next play Tuesday night against Eastern Kentucky at John Cropp Stadium.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Oklahoma’s Kendall Wells tied the NCAA Freshman record with her 30th home run of the season, a three-run shot to right center field. OU 7, UK 0

Kentucky scored twice in the top of the fifth inning as Reaghan Oney singled to center to score Abby Hammond from third, who led off the inning with a single, and Peyton Plotts, who doubled, scored on an RBI single to right field by Carly Sleeman that went to the wall. OU 7, UK 2

Oklahoma loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fifth and hit a walk-off grand slam from the bat of Kasadi Pickering. FINAL – Oklahoma 12, Kentucky 2

Key Player

Peyton Plotts went 1-for-2 in the game with a double and scored a run for UK’s offense, which was being no-hit through the first four innings of Saturday.

Key Moment

Wells’ three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to tie the NCAA record and take a 3-0 lead to make it 6-0 was the key moment of the game Saturday.

Pitching Recap

Sarah Haendiges got the starting nod for Kentucky for the second-straight day as she went the first three innings, allowing only three runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Abby Hammond went 0.2 innings and allowed four runs with McKenzie Oslanzi going the final 0.2 innings, allowing five runs. All runs in the game for all five pitchers of both teams were earned runs with no errors in the game for either team.
