Gamecocks Take Opener on Saturday Afternoon
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks took the opening game of this weekend’s three-game series in Columbia, beating Kentucky 14-1 in five innings.
The Gamecocks scored 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on eight hits to break open the game, and hand USC a 1-0 lead in the series. The Wildcats got their only run in the top of the second inning on a solo home run off the bat of Cassie Reasner. USC then would go on to score 14 unanswered runs the following two innings to win the game.
Carson Fall gave Kentucky a solid start in the circle, going the opening 2.1 innings with a strikeout and getting through the Gamecock order a time and a half. With the loss, Kentucky snaps its four-game winning streak and is now 27-18 on the season. The Wildcats sit 6-10 in SEC play.
Game two of the series is Sunday evening at 6 p.m. ET from Beckham Field in Columbia and will be televised on the SEC Network+ and the ESPN app.

The key player for the Wildcats was Cassie Reasner, who went 1-for-1 with a homer and a walk.
