Kentucky Sweeps Doubleheader with Parkland College

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Softball team continued its fall season Sunday with two wins in a doubleheader over Parkland College thanks to 9-0 and 5-3 results.

Early in the first game, senior Shortstop Erin Coffel slammed a home run over the left field wall to get the afternoon started for the Wildcats offense. Shortly after third baseman Grace Lorsung hit one over that same sweetspot, bringing in two more runs for the Wildcats. Freshman Emory Donaldson doubled to left field driving in two more runs scored by freshman Cassie Reasner and sophomore Lauryn Borzilleri. The first game’s final score was 9-0 in favor of the Wildcats.  

After a slow start to the second game and a few Parkland runs, Freshman Sydney Langdon entered the game in the circle for the Wildcats. UK scored two runs from walks and a deflection of a ball off of Cassie Reasner’s helmet. Freshman Ally Hutchins stepped up to the plate and hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give UK the 5-3 lead, its first of the game to that point.  

The Kentucky Wildcats have four remaining fall exhibition games in their fall season. The next will be against the Georgetown Tigers at John Cropp Stadium on Thursday, September 28 and will begin at 6 p.m. ET.  

Key Play  

Freshman Emory Donaldson doubled to left field, driving in two runs scored by Cassie Reasner and Lauryn Borzilleri. Additionally, Ally Hutchins hit a home run to bring in three runs in game two to win the game for the Wildcats. 

Key Player   

Jaden Vickers had 6 strikeouts Sunday in the circle. Vickers pitched three innings in total.

  1. Three home runs were hit by seniors Grace Lorsung and Erin Coffel and by freshman Ally Hutchins.

Run Recap 

Game 1 – Kentucky 9, Parkland 0

Erin Coffel hit a one-out solo HR to left field to give the Wildcats the early lead. UK 1, Parkland 0. 

Senior third baseman Grace Lorsung hit a home run over the left field wall to extend the Kentucky lead, as Rylea Smith also scored on the play. UK 3, Parkland 0.  

Peyton Plotts put a sacrifice fly to right field deep enough in the outfield enabling Meeko Harrison to score from thid. UK 4, Parkland 0.  

Freshman Emory Donaldson doubled to left field and drove in two runs scored by Cassie Reasner and Lauryn Borzilleri. UK 6, Parkland 0.  

With the bases loaded, sophomore Karissa Hamilton was hit by a pitch, which drove in Camryn Lookado to score. UK 7, Parkland 0.  

Freshman Ally Hutchins drove a ball right up the box with runners on to score Delani Sullivan and Taylor Ebbs. UK 9, Parkland 0.  

Game 2 – Kentucky 5, Parkland 3

Parkland scored three runs to jump on top of the Wildcats, 3-0. Parkland 3, UK 0

Rylea Smith was walked with bases loaded, allowing Margaret Tobias to score. Parkland 3, UK 1

In an attempt to pick off the runner at third, Cassie Reasner’s helmet deflected the ball, allowing Jenna Blanton to score on the errant throw and Kentucky scratched across another run. Parkland 3, UK 2 

Ally Hutchins hit a bomb over the left corner of the scoreboard, allowing Rylea Smith and Grace Lorsung to score and gave UK the lead for the first time in the game during the bottom of the sixth inning. UK 5, Parkland 3.
