No. 11/11 Kentucky Travels South To Face No. 21 Mississippi St.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a comeback that few – if any – saw coming on Wednesday night against Marshall, the No. 11/11 Kentucky Wildcats will head south to Starkville, Mississippi this weekend to face off against the No. 21/22 Mississippi State Bulldogs for a top-25 showdown at Nusz Park.
Kentucky was trailing Marshall by 11 runs going into the fourth inning, and somehow pulled off the win by scoring the final 12 runs of the game, including six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the game and improve the Wildcats’ record to 20-4 on the year, the best 24-game start by record in program history.
The Bulldogs will be the third ranked team that Kentucky has faced this season, and second team that the Wildcats will play on the road in true road games (2 – ASU).
The series in Starkville will run Friday through Sunday, and will follow the Southeastern Conference attendance protocol announced by SEC commissioner, Greg Sankey, on Wednesday as only teams, essential staff and family will be allowed into the ballpark.
All three games of the series will be shown on the SEC Network+ and the ESPN app. Live stats are available through the Mississippi State athletics’ website.
Kentucky is 29-30 all-time against the Bulldogs, having won the past four games in a row, dating back to 2017. In 2017, which was UK’s last visit to Starkville, the Wildcats lost the series 2-1, winning Sunday’s game in 11 innings to salvage a game.
