Autumn Humes and Abbey Cheek Named to All-Tournament Team
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Abbey Cheek and Autumn Humes were named to the 2019 All-Southeastern Conference Softball Tournament Team, it was announced by the league.
Humes pitched 9.1 scoreless innings in the tournament, striking out eight batters in her two appearances in the circle for the Wildcats. The Bald Knob, Arkansas native pitched a complete-game shutout against (5) Ole Miss in the quarterfinal game on Friday morning as the Wildcats won 8-0 before throwing 4.1 scoreless innings in UK’s loss to (1) Alabama.
Cheek hit her 20th home run of the season in Friday morning’s 8-0 win over Ole Miss in what turned out to be the eventual game-winning runs. Cheek was named the SEC Player of the Year on Tuesday morning – the first UK player to receive the award.
UK will now await its postseason fait for the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats are expected to be one of 30 at-large bids, in the field of 64 announced on Sunday night. The selection show will be at 9 p.m. ET live on ESPN2 with Beth Mowins, Amanda Scarbrough and Michele Smith anchoring the coverage.
