Cheek Shines, Pitching Strong in Fall Game vs. Lake Land
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of
Kentucky softball team hosted Lake Land College over the weekend for a fall
exhibition game on Sunday afternoon with the UK pitching staff shining bright
and offensive slugger Abbey Cheek picking up where she left off from 2016 in
the spring.
Cheek went 2-3 on the afternoon with seven RBI
and also drew a walk in one of her four plate appearances. She had two home
runs in the game with one coming as a two-run HR, and the other as a three-run
bomb.
In the circle, Kentucky was strong in the 10-inning
game as five different pitchers saw time with each of them throwing two
pitches. The Wildcats’ Larissa Spellman led off the game with two scoreless and
hitless innings while striking out three batters. Senior Meagan Prince only
allowed one base runner in her two innings joining Shannon Smith and Maddie
Boyd as the four UK pitchers to each throw two shutout innings.
Kentucky will host Lincoln Memorial on Oct. 7
in its next fall game at John Cropp Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
ET from Lexington.
