Cross Country Welcomes Strong Field for Bluegrass Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky will welcome a solid field of six other schools to the Bluegrass Invitational on Saturday at Masterson Station Park.
The men’s 8,000 meter race will start at 9:30 a.m. The women’s 5k is scheduled to go off at 10:10 a.m.
Teams scheduled to race on Saturday include Eastern Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, Morehead State, Bellarmine, Miami (Ohio) and the Illinois men’s team.
No. 23 EKU and Illinois (receiving votes) make up the nationally ranked teams in the field.
Kentucky will look to continue building toward its season goals, coming off a good season opener last week on the same course, although over a shorter distance (4k).
Sophomore Katy Kunc won the individual race at the “Kentucky Twilight” dual meet between the Wildcats and EKU. Kunc covered the 4,000-meter course in 14:15.91.
EKU edged the UK women’s team 26-31. The No. 23 EKU men defeated UK 21-39.
The Kentucky men were led by transfer Jacob Thomson who placed third overall in 11:54.56 (4k).
The UK men’s team is ranked eighth in the Southeast Region, and the women’s team is ranked 10th.
