Kentucky Head Coach Rachel Lawson
“I’m very proud of this team, because they came out and played like they have all year. You never know what you are going to get when you haven’t been in postseason play for a long time and you have so many young players. They played their game, they played well and they hung in there until the end, so I was very proud of them.”
“That (Molly Johnson’s home run) was everything. We have a good defense, and we are very confident in our pitcher, so it’s all a matter of whether we can get the runs to support them. When that happened, I think that was a big relief and a big weight off our shoulders. We were just able to go out and finish the game.”
Kentucky Junior Molly Johnson
“I just do whatever I can to help my team. Rachel Riley did a fantastic job keeping them scoreless through seven, and our defense helped her out. The offense really had no choice but to help our pitcher out and finish what our defense had been starting.”
“I think it (the program’s first SEC Tournament win) is fantastic. The last time we played Georgia, we were in a rough spell, so to be able to pull off a win against them shows the tenacity of our team.”
Georgia Head Coach Lu Harris Champer
On today’s game:
“It was disappointing that we didn’t come out and hit the ball likewe normally do.”
On Christie Hamilton’s pitching:
“I thought she pitched outstanding; I thought she pitched well enough towin. This game is about scoring runs and we’ve got to score more than zero.”
Where do you go from here?
“We go home and get to work.”
Georgia Senior Kristin Schnake
On today’s game:
“It’s just disappointing. Kentucky came out and they were ready toplay. We kind of just sat back and waited for
something to happen. They capitalized on what they created and took the game.”
You got five hits, but no runs:
“The name of the game is base hits together. If you can get a base hitwhen somebody is on base, then that’s
when you’re a good hitter. We had runners on first, runners on second, we just didn’t do what we needed to do.”
On Kentucky pitcher Rachel Riley
”We were just not getting hits like we needed to. She threw a great gameand you have to tip your hat off to her.
We have to come ready to go. We didn’t come out and be focused at the plate. I didn’t feel like we were very
focused. We just needed to get honed in and play our game and not worry about them.”
Where do you go from here?
“We go back and work on what we found out we needed to work in this game. It’s a never ending battle. We just
have to keep working because we know every other team in the nation’s working.”
