LEXINGTON, Ky. – In a day plagued with rain delays, the game between Kentucky and Auburn was postponed until tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET with Auburn leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The two squads had played 4.1 innings before the home plate umpire and both coaching staffs first delayed the contest. After reconvening 30 minutes later all parties decided to postpone the game until Sunday. UK and Auburn will complete today’s started contest and then play another game following that conclusion.

Auburn jumped out in front with two runs in the top half of the second after loading the bases on three consecutive walks, the Tigers a got two-out base hit to score two runs for the early advantage. The visitors etched another tally on the scoreboard in the top of the third frame after back-to-back doubles to open the inning improving their lead to 3-0.

The Blue and White fired back in the bottom half of the fourth though, as junior Natalie Smith led off with a single that split the right side. She advanced to second on a masterful sacrifice bunt by freshman Brittany Cervantes. Junior Destinee Mordecai swung at the very first pitch she saw and smacked the ball over the left-field fence for a two-run home run. It was her second round-tripper of the season.

UK’s next two batters, senior Katie McCarty and sophomore Annie Rowlands, were plucked by a pitch to place runners on first and second with just an out when the home plate umpire called for the tarp to be pulled. The call pushed the game into another rain delay with Kentucky trailing 3-2.

Live stats and complete coverage of the doubleheader between the two squads will be available at UK’s official homepage at UKathletics.com.
