LEXINGTON, Ky. — Due to the threat of inclement weather, today’s Kentucky softball game against Maryland as part of the Hatter Classic at Stetson University in Deland, Fla. has been cancelled. The Wildcats had won their four previous games in the tournament.
On Friday, Freshman pitcher Chanda Bell completed the first shutout of her career leading Kentucky to a 4-0 win over Centenary. In the second Friday game, a three-run third inning lifted Kentucky to a 4-2 victory over Stetson as UK plated four scores on nine hits.
On Saturday, senior Katie McCarty and sophomore Samantha DeMartine sparked Kentucky’s offense to a 10-1 six-inning win over Maryland in the first game. In the second game, junior Destinee Mordecai chose the perfect time to come up with her first hit of the game as she delivered a walk-off grand slam to propel Kentucky to a 4-0 victory over Stetson.
UK will resume action on Mar. 7 in Baton Rouge, La. when they open SEC play aganist LSU in a doubleheader slated to start at 2:00 p.m. ET.
