The Kentucky softball team was honored with three awards at the fourth annual Catspy Awards on Tuesday night, Apr. 25, at Rupp Arena. A spin-off of the popular ESPY’s held by ESPN every summer, the Catspy’s honor the academic and athletic achievements of UK’s student-athletes from all 22 varsity sports.

Senior Meghan Cooper was named the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year which honors one senior who has achieved in the classroom and has a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Junior Brooke Marnitz won for Female Performance of the Year after hitting for the cycle earlier this season against Indiana State. Marnitz collected a single, double, triple and home run in four at-bats against the Sycamores to become just the second Wildcat to hit for the cycle in the 10-year history of the program.

The softball team was named the Academic Team of the Year for earning the highest cumulative team GPA from Spring 2005-Fall 2006.

?I?m proud of the efforts our players,? said second-year head coach Eileen Schmidt. ?They worked hard in the classroom and it?s nice to see those efforts rewarded by the athletics department.?
