The University of Kentucky softball team continues its season-opening road swing this weekend, Feb. 18-20, when it travels to the Crowne Plaza Classic in Houston, Texas.
The Wildcats are now 1-9 on the year after defeating DePaul by a score of 2-1 in their last outing at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
UK faces #11 Baylor (13-1) in its opening game of the three-day tournament at 4 PM. This marks the second meeting between the two schools. The Bears defeated the Cats, 9-8, on Feb. 9, 2001, in Arlington, Texas. In the second game on Friday, the Cats battle the 1-6 Houston Cougars at 8 PM. HU leads 1-0 in the all-time series with a 5-4 win over UK during the 2003 season in this same tournament.
On Saturday, Kentucky faces Texas State (3-5) at 2 PM, followed by a 4 PM contest against North Carolina (5-0). The Bobcats lead 2-0 all-time over UK, while the Wildcats lead 1-0 over the Tar Hells in the series.
Play wraps up Sunday with a 10 AM game against Minnesota (4-2). This marks the first meeting between the two schools.
?The difficulty of the schedule continues this weekend and this may be the toughest tournament of the season,? said head coach Eileen Schmidt. ?We just have to stay up and build on what we did last Sunday.?
