UK finishes season 25-31-1 overall, 6-24 in the SEC

Auburn, Ala. — The Kentucky offense struggled for the third consecutive game, falling to the Auburn Tigers, 6-0, Sunday afternoon in Auburn, Ala. The contest marked the end of the season for the Cats, as UK finished the 2004 campaign 6-24 in the Southeastern Conference and 25-31-1 overall.

The Tigers (38-13, 19-10 SEC) crossed two runners in the third for an early lead and crushed any hopes of a Kentucky comeback with a three-run fourth inning. Ashley Griffin led the way with a lead-off double, coming home shortly thereafter on an RBI single from Cami Fenn. Lindsay Chitwood followed with a double, moving Fenn to third, and pinch-hitter Holly Currie earned an RBI with a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead. Auburn tacked on another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Martha Phillips for the final 6-0 score. Gretchen Prugh (5-11) ended her impressive freshman career on the mound with the loss, going 3.1 innings while surrendering six hits and five earned runs.

Auburn hurlers Kristin Keyes and Beth DiPietro combined to hold the Cats to just one hit in the finale, with the lone base hit coming on a single from Rachel Friberg in the third.
