The Kentucky softball team will close out the 2004 season this weekend when they travel to Auburn, Ala. for a Southeastern Conference series with the Auburn Tigers. The Cats and Tigers will face-off in a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. before concluding the series with a single game Sunday at noon.
UK (25-28-1) split a doubleheader on Wednesday with the Indiana Hoosiers. The Cats lost the first game, 3-1, but closed out the day with a 4-2 win over the Hoosiers. Freshman Ashley Fertic had the best day of her young career, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs.
The Tigers (35-13) are ranked No. 15 in the national polls this week after splitting a weather-shortened series last weekend with LSU. Auburn pitcher Kristin Keyes was named National Player of the Week and SEC Pitcher of the Week for her impressive performances against the nationally-ranked Tigers and Alabama.
The Cats are 7-10 vs. Auburn in the all-time series. UK failed to take a game from the Tigers last year in Lexington.
