Athens, Ga. ? The Kentucky softball team dropped two games to the Georgia Bulldogs Wednesday at the UG Softball Complex in Athens, Ga. UK (13-12-1, 2-9 Southeastern Conference) had 11 hits in the two-game span but managed to get only one runner across the plate.

The Cats kept the Bulldogs scoreless in the second game through three innings, but UG attacked in the fourth. Katie Lewis led off the frame with a single, and an intentional walk to Kim Wendland gave Georgia a pair of base runners with no outs. Courtney Knight juiced the bases after reaching on an error, and Michelle Green followed by bringing in two runs with an RBI single to center field. UG took a 3-0 lead when Kasi Carroll?s fly ball was dropped in the infield, allowing Knight to score from third base.

Carroll doubled the score to 6-0 in the sixth inning with a three-run home run over the left field wall. The Bulldogs (25-5, 4-1) held onto the margin for the remainder of the contest to earn their fourth SEC victory of the season.

Five Cats registered hits in game two, as Amber Janneck led UK with two base hits. Amy Kendall fell to 5-9 on the year with the loss on the mound, while Carroll improved to 4-1 while striking out seven.

In the first game, Georgia went up 1-0 early before Campbell answered in the top of the second, launching her fourth homer of the season off UG pitcher Katie Griffith. The Bulldogs exploded after the round-tripper from the freshman, scoring two in the third and tacking on another courtesy of a home run in the fourth from Ashley Godfrey that put UG up 4-1.

The Bulldogs weren?t done, as they loaded the bases three times and brought in three runs on four hits in the fifth. UG tacked on a final run in the sixth inning, as Nicole Barber singled to reach base, stole second and scored on a throwing error by the Cats for the final 8-1 tally.

The Cats and Bulldogs will wrap up the three-game series tomorrow with the final contest at 5 p.m.
