General Information Tryout Information:
You will need to bring proof of medical insurance including the policy number and your tryout application.
The final day of tryouts will be in the Memorial Coliseum (Avenue of Champions). Some of the sessions will be will be in the Seaton Center (corner of University and Complex Drives) in the Gymnastics Room (Room # 130)
The proper attire for the final day is: For the males tennis shorts or Khaki shorts and a polo-style collared shirt.
The females should wear a leotard and skirt or tennis style outfit with a sash. For all other sessions, t-shirts and shorts will be appropriate.
Please make sure you DO NOT wear another university, all-star, or high school clothing while trying out for the UK Cheerleading Squad. Other than UK-related apparel, your practice clothes should be completely neutral of any school or gym affiliation. You will be judged on appearance so consider clothing that is appropriate. Absolutely no jewelry! Every day, females hair should be half up and curled with their choice of bow.
Requirements: (In order of actual tryout)
Sideline: Run or tumble out and do a traditional UK sideline along with a stunt. Looking for energy, enthusiasm, and your ability to lead a crowd and look confident.
Cheer: You are to make up your own cheer, UK specific of course. It must include two stunts and one tumbling element.
Stunts: One required stunt and one optional stunt. The One required stunts is:
(1) Stretch (You can get in and out of the stretch any way you desire)
(2) The optional stunt consists of two stunts and one transition. I.e. Full up lib hands full around QP; back handspring 1 arm lib double take to 1 arm stretch.
Gymnastics:
(1) Optional Standing Pass (i.e. standing full, one to full, two to full, back tuck, back handspring back tuck, etc.)
(2) Optional Running Pass. (your best running tumbling pass)
Fight Song: We will teach you a fight song.
Schedule of clinics and tryouts:
Depending on the number of participants, we may have a cut after any session. We will announce at the beginning of the session if will be making a cut at the end.
These sessions are considered mandatory; you may be excused only with permission of the coaches or advisor.
Friday, May 5
10:00 a.m. – We will begin with an informational meeting and then begin teaching the fight song in the Seaton Center in the Gymnastics Room # 130. There may be free time for practicing your gymnastics and partner stunt skills
6:00 p.m. – We will help with choreographing cheers and we will continue to evaluate partner stunts and gymnastics skills.
Saturday, May 6
10:00 a.m. – Everyone will be given time to master material and to practice their skills.
2:00 p.m. – Interviews. Males will arrive at 1:30 to draw for order of interview and tryouts. Females will arrive at 3:30 to draw for order of interview and tryouts.
6:00 p.m. – Final clinic practice. Master the cheer, fight song, and all the required skills.
Sunday, May 7
12:30 p.m. – Memorial Coliseum opens for participants to arrive and stretch before the tryouts begin.
2:00 p.m. – Final day of tryouts. We will begin with the actual tryout process. An expert-judging panel including former UK cheerleading alumni will evaluate these processes.
Scholarships:
Eight males & females who make the 2016-17 Blue Squad will receive a scholarship equivalent to the amount of in state tuition. If we take any additional members beyond the eight males and females, their scholarship will be the equivalent to that of white squad. All members that make the White Squad will receive five hundred dollars a semester. Also, all squad members that attain over a 3.0 GPA will receive an academic scholarship at the end of the year for their academic achievements.

Parking
Where to park each day:
Friday, May TBA -10:00 a.m. – Parking Structure 5 is available but it is a controlled lot while classes are in session. Upon entering the garage, you will be offered a time card from the gate. When leaving you will pay for the amount of time you parked in the garage.
Saturday, May TBA -10:00 a.m. – The remainder of tryouts will be held at Memorial Coliseum. You may park behind Memorial Coliseum in the “E” lot or park in front of the UK Bookstore and Student Center in the “E” lot.
Sunday, May TBA – 12:30 p.m. – Tryouts will take place in the Memorial Coliseum. You may park behind Memorial Coliseum in the “E” lot or park in front of the UK Bookstore and Student Center in the “E” lot.
