University of Kentucky softball player Lyndsey Angus was selected to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District IV Softball University Division First Team, it was announced today. The teams are voted on by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
Angus has been an All-SEC performer the past three years. She was named to the first team her sophomore and junior years and the second team this season. The kinesiology major has been on the SEC Academic Honor Roll the past two years. This is her first Academic All-District honor.
“Lyndsey has had a great athletic and academic career here at UK,” Coach Beth Pruitt said. “I am thrilled that she is being recognized for that. She is a great ambassador for our softball team.”
Angus caps off a remarkable career at Kentucky as the second leading batter in UK history. Her .384 batting average this season is good enough for fourth best in the record books and helped her improve her career average to .360.
In conference games, she led the entire SEC with a .429 average. Her .532 on-base percentage was the second highest in the league.
The Leominster, Mass., native walked 27 times this year, breaking the UK single season walks record she set her sophomore year and tied her junior year. Her 98 career walks not only smashes the Kentucky record but also moves her into fourth place in the SEC career record books.
This season, Angus led the team in runs (35), home runs (7), slugging percentage (.589) and walks (27). Besides the bases-on-balls record, Angus also established a top single-season mark for on-base percentage (.478). She is the career leader in that category with a .440 mark.
The Verizon Academic All-America Team will be announced May 29.
