Game 2 Box Score
The University of Kentucky softball team continued to struggle with SEC opponents as they fell to 14th-ranked South Carolina in a doubleheader Saturday at the UK Softball Complex. The Cats (9-18, 1-16) were shutout in the first game, 7-0, and dropped the second, 7-2.
South Carolina (27-10, 11-5) held a slim 2-0 lead going into the sixth inning on solo home runs by Kristen Hall (3rd inning) and Debralee Troesh (4th inning). In the top of the sixth, however, the Gamecock bats came alive. A five-run, five-hit inning gave USC the 7-0 lead. Meghan Cornett hit a three-run home run to cap off the scoring.
Kentucky was held to three hits – one each by Lyndsey Angus and Nikki Jones and the first career hit for freshman Leslie Floyd, who rejoined the team this week.
In the second game, the Gamecocks it out of reach early, scoring five runs in the first two innings. UK scored their runs in the second and fifth inning but Carolina added two insurance runs in the top of the fifth and took the game 7-2.
UK will try to rebound and look to avoid being swept in their fourth straight SEC series when they take on the Gamecocks in the final game, Sunday at noon ET at the UK Softball Complex. Admission is free.
