The University of Kentucky softball team (9-24) strays from SEC play for a mid-week doubleheader with in-state opponent Eastern Kentucky (12-10), April 2 at the UK Softball Complex. The first game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET. Admission is free.
The Wildcats are looking forward to a break from the tough SEC schedule where they have dropped 11-straight games. Seniors Nikki Jones and Lyndsey Angus continue to anchor the Cats’ offensive attack leading the team with .406 and .369 averages, respectively.
Junior shortstop Diana Barreras is the top Colonel batter with a .283 average. On the mound, seniors Jessica Soto and Jonelle Csora lead the way. Soto is 4-5 with a 2.43 ERA while Csora holds a 7-5 mark and has a 2.48 ERA.
Eastern Kentucky is coached by Jane Worthington who is in her 11th season at the helm of the Colonels. She has been the head coach since the program’s inception and has amassed an overall record of 288-272.
The Wildcats and the Colonels have met on 12 previous occasions with Kentucky holding the 8-4 series advantage. Last year the Cats swept a doubleheader in Richmond.
The first 50 UK students in attendance will receive a mini-radio. The first 100 UK students will get a Kentucky Softball T-Shirt. Plus, UK students will have a chance to win a $300 Nike gift pack and a chance to compete in the $300 Dash-For-Cash. All fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win prizes every inning.
