The University of Kentucky softball team opens its SEC schedule this Friday and Saturday when they play host to Florida. The teams will square off in a doubleheader Saturday, March 8 beginning at 1 p.m. ET at the UK Softball Complex and will close out the series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game. Admission is free.
The Wildcats (6-10, 0-0) look to bounce back after two losses Wednesday against 18th-ranked Ohio State. The Gators (19-9, 2-1) opened their SEC slate on Tuesday with a doubleheader in Auburn against the Tigers. Florida swept the first two games and then fell to Auburn the next day.
Kentucky seniors Nikki Jones and Lyndsey Angus are currently riding hitting streaks of six and five games, respectively. Jones leads the team with 18 hits and a .346 batting average.
Florida, who received votes in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA polls this week, is led by freshman Lindsey Cameron and senior Jennifer Mosssadeghi. Cameron is leading the team with a .342 average and Mossadeghi is close behind batting .341. All four pitchers for the Gators have an ERA less than 2.00. Junior Jenny Gladding has reached the century mark in strikeouts, while earning a 7-6 record. Amanda Moore, also a junior, has an 8-2 mark with a 1.09 ERA.
Florida has a 19-4 series lead. The 19 losses are the most for the Wildcats against any opponent. Kentucky is 1-5 in SEC openers with the lone win coming in 2000, a 4-3 victory over Auburn.
