LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky softball team will look to snap a three-game losing skid as the Wildcats travel down I-75 for a doubleheader with Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, April 16, at EKU’s Hood Field. The first game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. EDT.
The Wildcats (19-23) are looking to rebound from their three-game set back at the hands of host South Carolina this past weekend. The Cats were shutout in all three games while managing just 12 hits for the series. Junior Nikki Jones led the UK offense by going 4-for-8 and she continues to be the top hitter in the Southeastern Conference with a .436 batting average.
The Colonels (24-9) are coming off of a doubleheader split with Austin Peay. Pitcher Jessica Soto threw a one-hit, complete game shutout in the game-two victory. Elise Burch leads the Ohio Valley Conference-leading Colonels with a .368 batting average and 16 RBI. Jonelle Csora leads the pitching staff with a record of 15-5 and a 1.15 ERA with 169 K’s in 146.2 innings of work.
The Cats and Colonels have met 10 previous times with UK holding a slight 6-4 advantage in the series. The Cats downed EKU in last season’s twin bill, 4-3 and 8-0, in Lexington to run their winning streak to five in the series. The Cats are 2-2 all-time in Richmond.
The set will be UK’s final non-conference games of the season. UK is also looking to end a seven-game road losing streak.
