The University of Kentucky softball team swept its first Kentucky Fall Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 30, defeating Georgetown, 12-1, in its first game and shutting out Morehead State, 6-0, in its second game. Morehead defeated Georgetown to begin round-robin play.
With the Wildcats facing Georgetown, pitchers Monique Lovell, Jennifer Howland, and Morgan Marr combined for a four-hitter, giving up only one run. Howland struck out four Tigers in two innings, while offensively, the squad had nine hits and 10 walks. Tiffany Kruse went two-for-three with a double and two RBIs, Rachel Friberg added a double, a walk and a RBI, and Angie Dal Pozzo had a triple and a RBI.
In Kentucky’s game against Morehead, Lovell, Howland, and Marr once again combined for a one-hit shutout. The Wildcats had 11 hits, with Dal Pozzo going two-for-three with two RBIs and one run scored. Sandi Dengler was one-for-two with one RBI and a run scored, while Nikki Jones batted two-for- three.
This concluded the Cats’ fall practice season, while the regular season for the Cats will begin in February.
