Softball falls to Arkansas 2-1 in both games.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (April 30, 2000) — The University of Kentuckysoftball team dropped a doubleheader Sundayafternoon to the Arkansas as the Lady Razorbacksscored a pair of 2-1 victories over the Cats.
In the opener, UA third baseman Brett Ericksonscored in the fourth inning from second on a throwingerror by UK pitcher Keary Camunas, giving the LadyRazorbacks a 1-0 lead.
However, a similar play in the top of the fifth allowedthe Cats to tie the game at 1-1. Beth Fogle laid downa bunt but UA third baseman Brett Erickson overthrewfirst base as Nikki Jones scored from first and Fogleadvanced to third.
The Lady Razorbacks won the game in the bottom ofthe seventh with two out when Dana Gullick hit a linedrive to center that Fogle caught but was unable tocorral, scoring Andy Wharton from second for the win.
Rachel Talley improved to 11-10 with the win, whileCamunas dropped to 18-13. Jones and LyndseyAngus each recorded two hits apiece for the Cats.
In the nightcap, UA took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Erin Stokey’sRBI-single that scored Gulick.
UA added another run in the sixth when Danica Howlett singled to center asGulick scored her second run of the game to give UA a 2-0 lead.
UK (32-27, 11-13 Southeastern Conference) scored its only run of the game inthe seventh when first baseman Jamie Dardis advanced to third on Jones’ground out to first. Dardis scored when Erickson’s tag attempt flew out of herglove.
Lady Back pitcher Tammy Kincaid earned her 18th win of the season, while UKstarter Jen Howland fell to 8-7. Leslie Kwiatkowski led the Cats at the plate,going 2-for-3 with a single and a double.
UK returns to action on Tuesday, May 2 when the Cats play host to theTennessee Lady Volunteers at the UK Softball Complex. UK’s four seniors willbe honored prior to the game in Senior Day ceremonies. The doubleheader willbegin at 5 p.m.
