The Cats finished third overall in the two-day tournament with a 2-1.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 12, 2000) — The University of Kentuckysoftball team captured a 7-2 win over the ButlerBulldogs on the final day of the Kentucky Invitationalat the UK Softball Complex on Sunday. The Catsfinished third overall in the two-day tournament with a2-1.

BU (1-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two runs in thebottom of the first inning, but the Cats held theBulldogs scoreless through the final six innings.

In the top of the third, UK freshman Lyndsey Angusdoubled to left center and scored on LeslieKwiatkowski’s RBI-single. Tiffany Kruse tripled to leadoff the top of the fourth and scored on Andi Eilertson’ssacrifice fly.

With the game tied, 2-2 in the top of the seventhinning, Angus hit her second double of the game toscore Nikki Jones from third and Sandi Dengler fromsecond. Kwiatkowski followed with an RBI-single toright field, scoring Beth Fogle from third. Angie DalPozzo laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to scoreAngus from third. Kwiatkowski scored on a wild pitchby BU pitcher Melissa Benter as the Cats scored a 7-2 win.

Freshman pitcher Morgan Marr earned her second victory of the season, movingher record to 2-1. Angus was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and scoredtwo runs. Kwiatkowski was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Tiffany Kruse added a2-for-4 performance and scored a run.

“Morgan had a solid outing today, and we played well defensively which makesit easier to win games,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said. “We are beginning to findsome consistency and that should continue as our young team gains moreexperience.”

UK (11-13) returns to action on Saturday, March 18 when the Cats participate inthe Aces’ Classic in Evansville, Ind. The Cats will face Evansville at 1 p.m.followed by a 3 p.m. contest against Indiana.
