Softball squad claims second place at Choo Choo Tourney.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 27, 2000) — The University ofKentucky softball team scored a 4-1 victory overMarshall on Sunday, the final day of the ChooChoo Tournament.

The win over the Thundering Herd enabled the Catsto claim second place in the tournament with a 3-1record over the weekend.

UK (6-9) opened the scoring in the bottom of thethird inning when sophomore Angie Dal Pozzosingled up the middle, scoring Nikki Jones fromsecond and Beth Fogle from the third.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Cats added two moreruns to build a 4-0 lead. Fogle scored from thirdwhen Tiffany Kruse grounded out to first, movingLyndsey Angus to second. An error by MU firstbaseman Natasha Johnson allowed Angus to moveto the third base. Angus scored when Dal Pozzodoubled to center.

Dal Pozzo led the Cats at the plate, going 2-3 witha single and a double. Fogle went 1-3 and scoredto two runs, to go along with her tournament high,fourth stolen base. Fogle’s six runs in UK’s fourgames

UK hurler Jen Howland pitched a three-hitter andwon her team-high third game of the season,moving her record to 3-2 on the year, while MU pitcher Sara Gulla fell to0-2.

The Cats were scheduled to play Temple at 12:30 p.m., however, due to aweather delay, the game was cancelled and will not be made up.
