LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky softball team dropped both games to Ole Miss onSunday afternoon at the UK Softball Complex.
UK took a 1-0 lead into the top of the seventh, but could not fend offthe Rebels’ late rally.
The Wildcats got on the board first when Leslie Kwiatkowski scored onShanna Martini’s fielder’s choice. For the game, UK managed just threehits compared to the Rebels’ seven hits. Sophomore Tiffany Kruse owned twoof UK’s three hits.
UK hurler Jennifer Howland had a solid outing for the Cats, but could notfinish off the Rebels in the seventh inning.
Two UK errors and timely hitting by Ole Miss, spelled doom for theWildcats. In the top of the seventh, the Rebels struck for three runs asthey went on to defeat the Wildcats, 3-1.
Howland took the loss for UK, moving her record to 5-10 this season.Kari Abney picked up the win for Ole Miss as she improved her record to 3-4.
In the second game, the Rebels blistered UK with their hot hitting anddefeated UK, 10-1. Ole Miss cranked out 14 hits led by Mandy Shklar.Shklar went 4-5 with an RBI and scored three runs. In the seventh inning,Mackenzie Emel hit a three-run homer off UK pitcher Keary Camunas to capthe Rebels’ (25-24, 7-13) strong offensive showing.
Kwiatkowski went 3-4 for UK (21-32, 4-12 SEC) with an RBI.With the loss, Camunas fell to 12-14 this season while Jennifer Hughesimproved to 11-7.
UK will return to action on Tuesday, April 20, when they play host to theEvansville Purple Aces at the UK Softball Complex. The doubleheader willbegin at 5 p.m.
