LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky softball team split its two-game series againstMississippi State on Saturday afternoon.

UK (21-30, 4-10 SEC) outlasted Mississippi State (27-19, 9-9) in the firstgame, 5-4, but fell to the Bulldogs, 12-0, in the second game.

The Wildcats got on the board first when Michelle Bucci singled to scoreAndy Eilertson with two outs in the inning. In the bottom of the sixth, UKscored four runs to push its lead to 5-0. Sophomore Leslie Kwiatkowski hita three-run homer to cap the Wildcats’ big inning.

With two out in the top of the seventh, MSU put together a late rally byscoring four runs. UK pitcher Keary Camunas, who won her 12th game thisseason, struck out Jenny Hehnke with the bases loaded to end the Bulldogthreat and give the Wildcats a 5-4 victory.

Kwiatkowski and Bucci led UK with two hits apiece.

In the second game, UK could not find any offense and fell to MSU, 12-0.The Bulldogs put together a huge seventh inning where they scored nineruns. MSU recorded 15 hits in the game compared to the Wildcats three.

UK returns to action on Sunday, April 18, when they play host to the OleMiss Rebels at the UK Softball Complex. The doubleheader will begin at 1p.m.
