MOREHEAD, Ky. – The University of Kentucky softball team pounded out a season-high 11 hits, including a school-record five doubles, to claim a 7-0 win over Morehead State in Game 2 of their doubleheader on Wednesday. The Wildcats also posted a 4-1 victory in Game 1 to complete their first sweep of an opponent this season. The two wins gave UK 13 for the season, already two more than last season’s entire win total of 11. Thirdbaseman Lindsay Houser finished the day 5-for-6 at the plate with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Outfielder Jackie Haynes also had a productive day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three doubles, 2 RBI and two runs scored. UK (13-18) started Game 2 with an offensive outburst, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Freshman Leslie Kwiatkowski started the game with a double and scored two batters later on a Tiffany Kruse single. Jackie Haynes then doubled to score freshman Stephanie Thompson and Kruse, giving the Wildcats a 4-0 lead after just one half of an inning. Kentucky added two more runs in the third to break open the game. Haynes notched her second double of the game to start the inning and scored three batters later on a Susan Moore sacrifice fly. Sarah Snider then followed with a single to score Lindsay Houser, who had also doubled. UK added a final run in the fourth to push the final margin to 7-0. Senior Lorie Horner picked up the Game 2 win, scattering five hits and notching two strikeouts.

In Game 1, UK pitcher Keary Camunas gave up just four hits as the Wildcats claimed a 4-1 win over the Eagles. UK got on the board in the second when Houser singled to score Haynes who doubled to start the inning. The Wildcats added two runs in the third to increase their lead to 3-0. Kwiatkowski tripled to start the inning and Kruse and Haynes walked to load the bases. Horner then hit a shot to the second baseman, allowing Kwiatkowski and Kruse to score.

Morehead State scored in the fourth to pull within 3-1, but UK added a fourth run in the sixth to seal the win. Horner walked to start the sixth and advanced to third on singles by Houser and Moore. Michelle Bucci then scored Horner to complete the scoring.

UK continues play this weekend, as the Wildcats host defending SEC Champion South Carolina in a pair of doubleheaders at the UK Softball Complex. The first doubleheader is set for Friday at 6 p.m., while Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
