The University of Kentucky softball team begins a 10-game road trip this weekend, as the Wildcats travel to Athens, Ga., to meet Southeastern Conference rival Georgia in a pair of conference doubleheaders.
The two teams face off in a Friday twinbill starting at 2 p.m. (EST) and meet again Saturday with the first game scheduled for 12 p.m.
Georgia (24-11) enters the weekend contests on a roll, having won seven straight games, while UK (14-23) has dropped five straight after an upset win over defending SEC Champion South Carolina last Friday. The Bulldogs currently stand third in the SEC’s Eastern Division with a 4-4 league record, having split a four-game series with Tennessee and two games each with both Mississippi and Mississippi State. UK is fifth in the East with a 2-6 conference mark, having split a two-game set with Auburn and earning a win against South Carolina after dropping two games to Alabama. Last season, Kentucky earned their first-ever SEC win with a victory over the Bulldogs at the UK Softball Stadium, but Georgia won the remaining three games in the four-game set.
Following the trip to Georgia, the Wildcats continue their road swing with a doubleheader at Chattanooga next Wednesday before continuing SEC play with doubleheaders at Mississippi State and Mississippi next weekend. UK does not play at home again until an April 15 doubleheader with Chattanooga.
