LEXINGTON, Ky. – Due to the expectation of winter weather in the Lexington area on Wednesday, the University of Kentucky softball team has postponed its home opener on Wednesday, March 6 against Marshall for a later date, head coach Rachel Lawson announced Monday. A make-up date has not been announced.
Lawson and the No. 17-ranked Wildcats will open their 2013 home schedule on Friday, March 8 when UK begins Southeastern Conference action against the Ole Miss Rebels (16-9). The three-game set is schedule to begin at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, followed by 1 p.m. start times on Saturday and Sunday. Live stats from all three games will be available on UKathletics.com.
Admission to all three games vs. Ole Miss is free of charge due to the continued construction of the new UK Softball Complex. The new stadium is nearly completed, but until construction in the seating areas is fully complete, admission to games will be free of charge. Fans can contact the UK Ticket Office with any questions prior to attending a game at 1-800-928-2287.
Kentucky (16-3) is off to the best 19-game start in school history. UK went 5-0 last weekend at the Under Armour Invitational in Tampa, Fla., defeating Illinois, USF – who made the 2012 Women’s College World Series – Loyola Marymount, Central Michigan and Western Michigan. Overall, UK has defeated three ranked teams this season in then-No. 3 California, then-No. 16 Washington and then-No. 20 Stanford, while also defeating four teams in Oregon State, San Diego State, USC Upstate and USF that were or currently are receiving votes.
