No. 9 Kentucky Hosts Dayton For Saturday Doubleheader
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 9 Kentucky Softball team will host the Dayton Flyers on Saturday for a doubleheader at John Cropp Stadium beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
Both games will be shown live on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the ESPN app with Dave Baker (pxp) and Carol Bruggeman (color) on the call from Lexington. Live stats will be available on UKathletics.com, and tickets still remain by accessing UKathletics.com/tickets.
Kentucky is riding a two-game win streak, having won the finale of a three-game series with No. 5 Florida last Sunday before turning around and eeking out a 6-5 win over Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday night in the John Cropp Stadium home opener.
Mallory Peyton hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-3 game and put Kentucky up a trio of runs before Autumn Humes came in to get the final five outs on 12 pitches with a strikeout to close the game for her first save of the season. UK’s record stands at 21-2 overall on the season with Tuesday’s result, with one of the highest win totals in the nation to this point in the season.
Dayton is 4-8 this season, but sports a very quality win over Illinois State. The Flyers are led by Cara LaPlaca, who is in her 14th season as the UD head coach. The last time Kentucky and Dayton played was 2018 in the home opener for UK, in which the Wildcats emerged victorious 4-1, with Autumn Humes getting the win in the circle in her first year as a Wildcat.
