Kentucky Softball Adds Transfer Autumn Humes to Pitching Staff

by Chris Shoals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Autumn Humes, the NCAA Division II National Softball Freshman of the Year, has transferred to Kentucky to join the Wildcats softball program, head coach Rachel Lawson announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Humes joins the Wildcats from Harding University in Arkansas, where she went 33-3 in 2017 as a freshman in the circle with a 1.19 ERA in 49 games. She also was stellar at the plate, hitting at a .346 clip with 24 runs scored, seven home runs and 53 runs batted in.

“Autumn brings experience and power to our young pitching staff,” Lawson said, who enters her 11th year at Kentucky. “Her resume puts her in line to be one of the next great pitchers at Kentucky.”

She was named the national DII Freshman of the Year in addition to being named as part of the NFCA’s Second Team All-America for the DII level. Humes was the Great America Conference Freshman of the Year and three-time conference Pitcher of the Week. She was named All-League both defensively as a pitcher (first team) and offensively (second team) as a hitter – all whilst winning the conference MVP award.

A native of Bald Knob, Arkansas, Humes played her travel ball for the Arkansas Heat Gold and Texas Glory-Ratliff. While in high school, she hit a career .520 with over 150 runs scored, 31 home runs, 190 RBI and 22 triples. As a pitcher in high school, she had a four-year ERA of 0.70 in 264+ innings and 89 wins in the circle.

Humes joins Kentucky as a sophomore and will be eligible immediately.
