Senior CLASS Finalist Kelsey Nunley Named SEC Pitcher of the Week
BATON ROUGE, La. – After a
complete-game shutout win over No. 8 LSU on the road in Baton Rouge, La., University
of Kentucky senior pitcher Kelsey Nunley was named the Southeastern Conference
Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday morning.
Nunley went the distance on Saturday night,
helping Kentucky earn a 1-0 win over the Tigers in the series opener. The Soddy
Daisy, Tenn., native struck out six LSU batters and lowered her ERA on the
season to 1.03. She now has a 14-4 overall record in 2016 and leads the
Kentucky staff with over 120 strikeouts on the season.
Nunley is also a finalist for the 2016 Senior
CLASS Award, where fans can go online and vote for Nunley every day through the
end of the regular season one time per day. Fan balloting counts for 1/3 of the
total with the remaining 2/3 determined by NCAA Division I coaches and national
media members.
No. 15 Kentucky has already wrapped up a
series win in Baton Rouge against LSU for the first time in program history,
and will look to sweep the Tigers on Monday night at 7 p.m. ET from Tiger Park.
The game will be shown live on the SEC Network, ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app
with Women’s College World Series announce crew Adam Amin and Amanda Scarbrough
on the call from the Bayou.
