The University of Kentucky softball team continues early-season tournament action this weekend as the Wildcats travel to Richmond, Ky. for the Eastern Kentucky Invitational.

UK opens the tournament against the host Colonels at 2 p.m. on Friday before facing Miami of Ohio at approximately 4 p.m. After taking Saturday off, the Wildcats return to tournament action on Sunday, facing Wright State at 2 p.m. and Dayton at approximately 4 p.m. Kentucky has played both Eastern Kentucky and Dayton already this season, dropping a 1-0 eight-inning decision to EKU at the UNC Triangle Classic on Sun., Feb. 22 and splitting a doubleheader with the Flyers at the UK Softball Stadium this past Monday. Dayton won the first game 5-4 in eight innings, while the Wildcats picked a 4-3 victory in game 2. UK dropped four meetings with Wright State last season, including a 4-1 loss to the Raiders in the championship game of last year’s EKU Invitational. The Wildcats also dropped a pair of games at Miami last season. Following this weekend’s tournament, the Wildcats return home to play host to a doubleheader with South Dakota State on Monday at the UK Softball Stadium. Current UK head coach Beth Kirchner was the head coach at South Dakota State from 1992-1995 before taking the head coaching position at Kentucky.
