KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Kentucky softball team (23-44, 6-22 SEC) split with Tennessee (42-23, 17-11) Sunday afternoon at Tyson Park as the Wildcats ended their 1999 season on a positive note by defeating the Lady Vols 9-7 in the second game of a doubleheader.

UK’s Leslie Kwiatkowski hit two home runs in the second game including a grand slam in the top of the fourth inning to lead the Wildcats past UT. Kwiatkowski’s two home runs tied the SEC record for home runs in a single game.

The Wildcats’ five-run fourth inning gave UK a 6-2 advantage. UK added another three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 9-2 lead, however UT came back with three of its own in the bottom of the fifth.

The Lady Vols put two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score, 9-7.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, UK pitcher Keary Camunas struck out Adrianna Wilson to end the inning. The Wildcats held on for a 9-7 win, UK’s first-ever win over the Lady Vols.

Camunas earned the win for the Cats as she improved to 14-20 on the season. Colleen Boddy picked her first save for UK.

In the first game, UT took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning when the Vols struck for four runs to put the game out of reach. With the victory, the Lady Vols captured the SEC Eastern Division crown and earned the No. 2 seed heading into the SEC Tournament next weekend in Columbus, Ga.

Second baseman Lisa Warren hit her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, giving UT a 4-0 lead. After two straight singles by Kelli Fitzgerald and Amanda Venable, Carrie Swinford hit a three-run shot to left field, her tenth home run of the season, as UT went on to defeat UK, 7-0.

Warren and Venable each went 3-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Vols. UT pitcher Sarah Ayres picked up the win, moving her record to 16-10 on the year.

UK pitcher Jennifer Howland took the loss for the Wildcats, dropping her record to 5-16.
