A quartet of University of Kentucky softball players were named to the 1998 Southeastern Conference Softball Academic Honor Roll, league Commissioner Roy Kramer announced Wednesday. Sophomores Michelle Bucci, Lindsay Houser and Susan Moore, as well as senior Lorie Horner, were among 59 softball players from the 11 SEC teams who were named Academic All-SEC.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade-point average for either the past year or for her career, be a sophomore or higher in academic classification and have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree.

Horner, a member of the UK softball team’s first senior class, was one of just four players to start all 62 games this season, splitting time between first base and pitcher. A psychology major from Louisville, Horner led the team in home runs this season and was second on the team with a .976 fielding percentage.

Bucci, a kinesiology major from Granger, Ind., started all 62 games at shortstop this season and was one of just two Wildcats to finish with more than 100 assists. Houser, a special education major from Westerville, Ohio, started 53 games at third base and led UK with 148 assists. Moore, a mechanical engineering major from Freedom, N.Y., spent time at both right field and first base this season, committing just seven errors in 59 games.
