LEXINGTON, Ky. – After travelling across the Southeast and Midwest to play in four different tournaments over the first four weeks of the season, the University of Kentucky softball team finally plays host to its own tournament this weekend, as five schools converge on Lexington for the Kentucky Softball Invitational.
Held on Saturday and Sunday at the UK Softball Stadium, the tournament features Ohio, Kent State, Wright State, Eastern Kentucky, and Indiana State in addition to the host Wildcats.
The tournament begins at 10 a.m. Saturday when Indiana State takes on Eastern Kentucky in the first of six games. UK opens tournament play at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday against Ohio and follows with the final game of the day, a 6:45 meeting with Kent State.
The tournament continues on Sunday when Kent State and Indiana State square off at 9 a.m. Kentucky faces EKU at 4 p.m. and concludes the tournament against Wright State at 5:45.
“We’re excited about finally hosting our own tournament,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said. “This gives us an opportunity to showcase our softball complex – which we feel is one of the nicest around. It should be an exciting weekend of action for the fans.”
