Cats down Connecticut but fall to Tennessee-Chattanooga.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2000) — The University ofKentucky softball team split in its first two games onFriday, the opening day of the Choo ChooTournament.
UK scored a 1-0 victory over the ConnecticutHuskies in the Cats’ first game of the day at JimFrost Stadium. With the game tied in the top of thesixth, sophomore Beth Fogle scored from thirdbase on a throwing error by Connecticut catcherJamine Blesoff. Nikki Jones singled. Moving Fogleto third base, however the error allowed Fogle toscore the game winning run.
Pitcher Keary Camunas picked up her first win ofthe season, moving her record to 1-5, and earnedher 13th career shutout. Jen Howland recorded twohits for the Cats.
In the Cats’ second game, UK dropped a 2-1decision to host Tennessee-Chattanooga. UK goton the board in the top of the first when Foglescored from third base on a wild pitch by UTCpitcher Beth Alexander.
UTC (7-6) tied the game in the bottom of thesecond when Carrie Hamilton doubled to rightcenter off Camunas, scoring Ashley Sherman fromsecond. In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Mocstook a 2-1 lead when Jaci Welsh doubled to rightfield, scoring Talya Trudell, who reached on a single and went to third on atwo-base error by UK right fielder Michelle Bucci.
Lady Mocs’ pitcher Beth Alexander moved her record to 1-3 with the win,while Camunas dropped to 1-6 on the season. Awbrey Winckler earned herfirst save of the year for UTC.
UK (4-9) returns to action on Saturday when the Cats take on Liberty at12:30 p.m.
