LEXINGTON, KY. – The University of Kentucky softball team will play host to the Akron Zipson Wednesday, March 22 at the UK Softball Complex. The first game of thedoubleheader is set for 2 p.m., while the second game is slated for 4 p.m.
“We are excited about playing Akron because we have some commonopponents,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said. “We have the opportunity to break.500 for the first time, so we should come out ready to play ball.”
UK (13-13) enters Wednesday’s contest having won six of its last sevengames and nine of its last 13. The Cats were named co-champions along withLoyola-Chicago at the Aces’ Classic last weekend in Evansville with a 2-0tournament record. Hurler Keary Camunas pitched a two-hit shutout en routeto a 4-0 win over Evansville. In UK’s second game Saturday, the Catswhipped Indiana 16-0, breaking the school mark for runs scored in a game(16), hits (18), RBIs (15), and total bases (22).
Junior Tiffany Kruse is 9-for-21 (.429) in her last six games with eightRBIs and six runs scored. She finished the Aces Classic, going 4-for-7 withtwo doubles and two triples.
Last season, the Zips defeated UK, 5-4, in the Kentucky Invitational.
