(Feb. 22, 2001) — The University of Kentucky softball squad hits the road Friday, February 23, to take part in the Sonic Invitational Tournament at Frost Stadium on the campus of UT-Chattanooga. In their first game of the round robin tournament UK (4-6) will face Marshall (3-2) Friday, February 23, at noon, followed by a matchup against host UT-Chattanooga (7-4) at 6 p.m.
The Cats will take the field again Saturday with a 4 p.m. contest against Liberty and will complete the round-robin portion of the tournament in a 6 p.m. contest against Virginia Tech.
“The momentum we built up last weekend should really help us this weekend,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said. “The team cannot wait to get back on the field. UT-Chattanooga and Virginia Tech are two teams we have never beaten, so we are excited about competing against them.”
The tournament concludes Sunday afternoon when the teams sporting the best records face off against one another.
The Cats are coming off a three-win, two-loss showing in the University of Arizona Tournament last weekend when they knocked off New Mexico State, Bowling Green, and Oklahoma State.
