The University of Kentucky softball team travels to Fayetteville, Ark., Saturday May 5, to take on the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks in the final regular-season series for both teams. The Wildcats (26-30, 9-16 Southeastern Conference) are battling to secure a berth in next week’s SEC tournament.
“It will be nice to play now that finals are over,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said. “The only thing we need to focus on is softball. Sunday is our first televised game, so it should be fun playing in front of the cameras.”
The series opens with a doubleheader scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Lady ‘Back Yard and concludes with a single game at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Sunday afternoon game will be televised by Fox Sports South. Junior shortstop Angie Dal Pozzo leads UK at the plate with a .353 batting average, seven home runs, and 38 RBI. Sophomore hurler Morgan Marr has recorded 16 wins on the season to pace the Wildcat pitching staff. Marr needs three more wins to tie the UK single-season record for victories.
Kentucky is on a two-game win streak after taking the final two games of a crucial three-game series from the Auburn Tigers last weekend at the UK Softball Complex.
Several Wildcats played well during the Auburn series. Junior Beth Fogle batted .875 on the weekend and scored the game-winning run in Saturday’s nightcap. Second baseman Nikki Jones scored the tying run in the seventh inning and recorded the RBI that scored Fogle. Sophomore catcher Lyndsey Angus reached base eight consecutive times during Saturday’s doubleheader
