CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Southeastern Conference has announced that two University of Kentucky softball players have been named All-SEC. Sophomore catcher Lyndsey Angus was named first team All-SEC, while sophomore second baseman Nikki Jones has been named second team All-SEC in a vote of the league head coaches.
“I am very happy for both Lyndsey and Nikki to be honored by the league’s coaches,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said. “This conference is stacked with talent. I also feel bad for some other players who were not named All-SEC.”
Angus, a native of Leominster, Mass., led the Wildcats in hitting during conference play with a .413 batting average and also led the squad with an on-base percentage of .500. Angus also set a new individual single-season mark for walks with 26, breaking the previous record of 19 held by Angus and shared by Sarah Snider. Angus was also honored as SEC Player of the Week in mid-April.
Jones, a native of Fairfield, Calif., played in all 28 SEC contests for the Wildcats and hit at a .407 clip during conference play, which ranked second on the squad. Jones enters the SEC Tournament riding a seven-game hitting streak that began in the second game of a doubleheader at Western Kentucky on April 25. The streak includes three three-hit games. Jones also holds the season’s longest streak that lasted 12 games earlier this season.
